AIDS AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE

In the last year an increasing interests for alternative stable medicine has also been audited from -the media- and movements of opinions that improve the return to conceive man in his psycho-physical dimension. On behalf HIV+ and/or AIDS patients more attention has been put in the search of alternative therapeutical solutions.

Objective:
a) To identify the formalities and the canals across which the patients engage information around the alternative therapies. b) Appraise the number of the persons who applay to alternative therapies, their motivations and expectations. c) appraise the levels of acquaintance of the patient as well as the contingent demand of deealing theory of the alternative therapies and their possible integration with the official medicine. d) appraise the psychological and emotional connotations of the connected patients to the search of alternative solutions not always supplemental income from the state to their real condition. e) to value compliance level between patients-doctor and the adherence to the prescripted care.

Method:
200 HIV+ and/or AIDS patients (120 males and 80 female) who go to the Services of "L. Spallanzani" or to the Psychosocial Services of Anlaids, have been interviewed by means of an anonymous questionnaire specially structured.

Results:
52% of the interviewed at least an alternative therapy, 62% of them to confirm to amplify the official therapy, with the alternative and only 20% of the patients have informed their doctor. 28% retain to possess sufficient information on the alternative medicine while 60% don't think to be prepared on this argument. Positive expectations in the integrate approach are noticeable in 44% of the interviewed.

Conclusions:
the pronounced data highlighting the demand to give more systematic information and to motivate patients to a better compliance toward relationship between doctor patient. In this way incongruous expectations could be avoided on behalf doctor patient. For these reasons it is necessary to formulate informative courses on alternative medicine both for patients and for the health staff personnel.
