Astragalus
membranaceus
This page report syntethically principal
information about ASTRAGALUS MEMBRANACEUS and HIV.
The complete research text is available only in Italian language and
is published in the volume:
Bianchi, Adamoli, " Piante Medicinali e AIDS", Ed. Tecniche Nuove,
1997.
IN VITRO DATA
Astragalus Membranaceus inhibits viral
replication.
Also Astragalus Membranaceus stimulates Interleuchina-2 (Chu et al.,
1994) and Macrophages (Liang et al., 1994; Zhao et al., 1990)
production.
Considerations
- Plant used in the centuries in Traditional
Chinese Medicine with safe. According to in vitro data, teratogen
risk have to be more deeply studied. At the moment it is not
suggested during pregnancy.
- Immunostimulating activity is attributed to
Astragalus, confirmed by numerous in vitro, in vivo and clinic
studies.
- There aren' t data about Astragalus
treatment of persons with HIV, if not in association with other
plants. For this reason it is not possible to evaluate single
extract activity in HIV infection.
